TP-C2 and TP-C3 Substation Class Motor Operators
Cleaveland/Price offers several types of substation class motor operators to meet customer applications. TP-C2 and TP-C3 motor operators are designed to operate substation class disconnect and loadbreak switches that require a torsional motion. Operation time of the TP-C2 is typically 5-6 seconds (180 degree rotation) with available torque output ratings of 10,000 in-lbs. and 20,000 in-lbs. The TP-C3 motor operator features a permanent magnet motor and is available with torque output ratings of 20,000 and 30,000 in-lbs. at an operating time of 5 seconds /20,000 in-lbs. and 11 seconds /30,000 in-lbs.

Manual Operating Mechanisms
Swing Handle
Wormgear Operator
The Cleaveland/Price GH-C is a manual geared handcrank operator for group operated switches. It is available in 10:1, 20:1, and 40:1 gear ratios, delivering high torque at low operating forces. The GH-C features:
- Complete non-cast construction with rugged, adjustable open-closed stops
- Metallic slip handle
- Padlockable, stainless steel crank and locking disc
- Metallic clamp-on position indicators
- Tinned copper braid ground strap
Pump Handle
In some applications a reciprocating operator is most appropriate.
The RP-C pump handle operator is a heavy-duty operator that has a built-in key interlock mounting provision. The pump handle operator is available with an integral auxiliary switch assembly and electrical interlock as options.
Overhead Distribution
Overhead Distribution Overview
Cleaveland/Price makes two types of controllers for overhead distribution switches; controllers for switches with vertical operating pipe and for those without operating pipe. Switches with operating pipe could have a torsional swing handle operator or a reciprocating pump handle operator. For torsional pipe switches, Cleaveland/Price offers the BT-D controller. For reciprocating pipe switches, we offer the BR controller.
Some utilities favor switches that do not have vertical operating pipe. For these applications we offer the PTAD controller. With the PTAD controller, the motor mounts at switch level and the controller mounts beneath the switch (photo below).
The PTAD controller can be retrofitted to switches that presently have a vertical operating pipe. All of the motor operators incorporate features critical for automation reliability.
Outdoor Group
Group Operated Switch Overview
Cleaveland/Price offers many group operated switch types including vertical break, center break, double end break and single end break. All of the switches are available with copper current carrying parts. The switches are typically supplied as three pole switches for substation, transmission, and distribution applications. The switches can be mounted in the horizontal-upright, vertical, horizontal-underhung, or inclined position.
The switches are suitable for use in a variety of applications including line disconnecting and sectionalizing, circuit breaker by-pass and isolation, and transformer isolation. Arc horns or quick break whips are available when small amounts of transformer magnetizing currents or line charging currents must be interrupted.
Full load break attachments are available for vertical break switches. Accessories needed to adapt the switch to a customer’s particular requirements are available.
The switch may be manually operated by use of a swing handle or wormgear mechanism or electrically operated by use of a Cleaveland/Price TP-C2 motor operator.
Cleaveland/Price’s switches meet ANSI C37, NEMA, and IEEE Standards and the rating requirements of IEC Standards.
