Rae Sweeney

Cleaveland/Price announces that the company’s Board of Directors has appointed company controller and IT director, Rae Sweeney, to succeed company founder Chuck Cleaveland, as company president.  The transition is effective, January 1, 2014.

Mrs. Sweeney, a 29-year employee of Cleaveland/Price, is well positioned to step into the role of president. She has an exceptional knowledge and understanding of Cleaveland/Price information and manufacturing systems and has been a driving force in the installation and update of the company’s MRP system. Says Mrs. Sweeney, “I look forward to the challenge and opportunity to serve both our employees and customers. By following Chuck Cleaveland’s leadership example, we will continue to flourish as a key supplier in the marketplace as well as provide our employees with a top notch work experience.”

As company leader, Chuck Cleaveland established the company philosophy of placing employees #1, customers #2, and profit #3 in order of importance. Mr. Cleaveland stated that he is “confident and thankful that Rae will carry on our corporate traditions of having no unhappy customers and always treating our employees with kindness”. Mr. Cleaveland will remain as Chairman of the Board of Directors.  He will be active with the company as he focuses his attention on product development, process refinement, and mentoring employees to succeed in attaining goals.

Manual Operating Mechanisms

Swing Handle

The swing handle operator is a common manual operator for most group operated switch styles and ratings. The swing handle assembly is provided with stops to prevent overtravel when opening or closing the switch. The swing handle is padlockable in both the open and close positions.  All swing handle components are fabricated from steel.  Metallic clamp-on position indicators and a tinned copper ground strap are standard. A switch nameplate is attached to the swing handle.

Wormgear Operator

The Cleaveland/Price GH-C is a manual geared handcrank operator for group operated switches.  It is available in 10:1, 20:1, and 40:1 gear ratios, delivering high torque at low operating forces. The GH-C features:

  • Complete non-cast construction with rugged, adjustable open-closed stops
  • Metallic slip handle
  • Padlockable, stainless steel crank and locking disc
  • Metallic clamp-on position indicators
  • Tinned copper braid ground strap

Pump Handle

In some applications a reciprocating operator is most appropriate.

The RP-C pump handle operator is a heavy-duty operator that has a built-in key interlock mounting provision.  The pump handle operator is available with an integral auxiliary switch assembly and electrical interlock as options.

Grounding Switches

Grounding

GND-C

The Cleaveland/Price GND-C is a group operated ground switch that can be supplied in a three pole, four pole, or even five pole configuration. The switch is suitable for line, load, or capacitor grounding but is not designed for high speed fault closing applications. The switch pole units can be mounted on a single support beam or pedestal structure as a stand alone switch. The ground switch can be provided as an option to attach to the hinge or jaw end of a three phase disconnect switch.

DB-CV “V” Copper Double Break

DB-CV “V” Copper Double Break

The DB-CV uses the same current carrying parts as the DB-C, however, the jaw end insulators are inclined.  By having the jaw end insulators inclined, the cable conductors establish electrical clearance from the base without the need for wire guides or outriggers.  The inclined insulator design makes the switch suitable for low profile substations.  This design is available from 115 kV through 161 kV.

DB-C Copper Double Break

The Cleaveland/Price DB-C is a three pole, group operated, copper double end break switch used primarily in substations. The switch is available in a “V” configuration at 115 kV to 161 kV. The double side break design is useful in applications where there is limited overhead clearance and interphase distances need to be kept at a minimum. Because the blades of the switch will not be energized when the switch is in the open position, the switch can be installed on the same phase spacing as a vertical break switch.

DB-C Performance Features

  • All copper current carrying parts
  • Non-cast copper terminal pads with NEMA standard hole pattern
  • High pressure, silver-to-silver line contacts at jaws
  • Stainless steel contact springs
  • Parallel blade construction for efficient cooling
  • Built-in closed position blade stop
  • Ice shield on 115 kV through 230 kV ratings
  • Hot-dip galvanized single channel base of switches rated 7.2 to 69 kV, double channel base on switches rated 115 kV through 230 kV
